Rugby Rokeby Lions Continue Their Support for Rugby Foodbank

A £1,000 donation continues a relationship that has supported local people for many years

Supporting local people and local organisations has always been at the heart of Rugby Rokeby Lions, and Rugby Foodbank is a charity we have been proud to support for many years.

Before Covid, our Lions could regularly be found out on the streets of Rugby collecting donations specifically for the Foodbank.

The way we raise money may have changed since then, but our support has not.

We are delighted to continue that long-standing relationship with a donation of £1,000 to Rugby Foodbank, helping them provide vital support to people and families facing crisis here in our own community.

The need is right here in Rugby

Food poverty can sometimes feel like an issue happening somewhere else. Unfortunately, the figures from our own town tell a very different story.

During 2025/26, Rugby Foodbank provided nearly 5,900 emergency food parcels to local people in need.

Behind every one of those parcels is a person or family who, for whatever reason, has reached a point where they need some help.

Rugby Foodbank provides emergency food to people referred to them in crisis, but their work is about more than the contents of a food parcel. Volunteers provide a welcoming environment, listen without judgement and can help people access other services and support that may help them through the difficulties they are facing.

A long-standing relationship

Our support for Rugby Foodbank is not new.

For many years, Rugby Rokeby Lions members helped raise money for the charity through street collections around Rugby. Like many things, Covid changed how those activities could take place, and today much of our fundraising is carried out through our own events and activities.

What hasn't changed is where we want that money to go.

The money we raise comes largely from the generosity of people in and around Rugby. Whenever you attend one of our events, make a donation, support one of our collections or help us with our fundraising, you are helping us put that money back into the community.

This £1,000 donation to Rugby Foodbank is one example of your support coming full circle – money raised locally, helping people locally.

Could you help too?

Rugby Foodbank relies on the support of the local community and there are many ways to help.

Food donations are always important, and the Foodbank regularly publishes details of the items it currently needs most. Financial donations and volunteering also help them continue providing support to people across Rugby.

And perhaps just as importantly, if you or someone you know is struggling and needs help, Rugby Foodbank is there to support people in our community when they need it.

You can find out more about their work, how to get help, what food items are currently needed and how you can support them through the Rugby Foodbank website.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support Rugby Rokeby Lions.

Your support helps us support Rugby.
