Thank You — Quiz Night Raises £2,400 and Counting Towards Prostate Cancer Awareness

What a fantastic night! Thank you to everyone who came along, took part, and donated to our Quiz Night on 31st July at the Rugby Indian Centre — 160 quizzers in total, for a truly full house.

This was a joint effort from the start. The evening was organised by Willy Goldschmidt of Friends of St Cross, Cllr Jerry Roodhouse, Cllr Maggie O'Rourke, and our own Gill and John Nelson, alongside Rotary Club Rugby Dunsmore — brought together to raise awareness of prostate cancer and the importance of early diagnosis. The Mayor of Rugby, Cllr Nooria Sayani, opened the evening, and both Willy and Jerry generously shared their own experiences of living with cancer.

So far, the night has raised £2,400 — with donations still coming in. Funds will be shared between Prostate Cancer Research, the Neuroendocrine Cancer charity, and our own Lions Club, helping cover the cost of our upcoming PSA testing event.

It's worth remembering why this matters. Rugby Rokeby Lions have been running PSA testing sessions for 9 years, testing 1,863 men without symptoms — of whom 148 were advised to seek urgent further tests. On the night of the Quiz, 15 men already booked their place at our next testing session.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, quizzed, donated, and helped run the evening — and to Ish Mistry for generously hosting us at the Indian Centre free of charge.

If you missed the Quiz Night but still want to support the cause, our Prostate Cancer Awareness Morning takes place on Saturday 19th September 2026, 9:30am–12:00 noon at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Centre, Rugby — offering free PSA blood tests for men aged 40 and over.
