From Rugby to India – Our Mobile Eye Clinic in Action

A wonderful update from India, where the mobile eye screening unit supported by Rugby Rokeby Lions Club is helping bring vital eye care into local communities.

In our recent story, we shared how the generosity of people across Rugby and the surrounding area has helped us collect more than 80,000 pairs of unwanted spectacles.

We explained how those spectacles are collected, sorted and prepared for their onward journey, with approximately 10,000 pairs donated to support the City Centre Eye Hospital in Phillaur, India.

But our involvement doesn't stop there.

Taking eye care into the community

These latest photographs show the Mobile Eye Screening Unit in action in India, with local people gathering and queuing to access its services.

The unit, associated with the City Centre Eye Hospital in Phillaur and displaying the Rugby Rokeby Lions Club emblem, is part of an initiative to bring eye screening and care closer to communities.

Rather than relying solely on people travelling to a hospital, the mobile clinic enables eye care services to reach people in their own communities.

For Rugby Rokeby Lions, seeing the vehicle in use is a wonderful reminder of why we support projects like this.

A project close to our hearts

Our involvement began through fellow member Lion Saudagar, whose work with the hospital in India led to our club supporting the mobile eye clinic project.

Alongside donating thousands of pairs of spectacles, we have supported the provision of eye-care drops for mobile clinics.

The photographs show the screening unit welcoming members of the community, with our Lions emblem proudly displayed on its side.

It is particularly rewarding to see a project we have supported being put to practical use.

Local generosity, international impact

Every pair of spectacles donated in Rugby starts its journey with a simple act of kindness.

Whether those spectacles are distributed through the wider Lions recycling network or contribute to projects overseas, the support of our community makes this work possible.

We would like to thank everyone who continues to donate their unwanted spectacles, along with the opticians, supermarkets and other organisations that kindly host our collection points.

From Rugby to India, our commitment to helping others continues.

Ordinary People. Amazing Things. We Serve.
